The Glass Piano
BBC Radio 3
In this compelling piece for Radio 3’s Between The Ears, playwright, novelist and poet Deborah Levy conjures the world of a Bavarian Princess who believed that she had swallowed a glass piano and who lived in a state of continuous anxiety, torn between the fear that she might accidentally break the instrument and her desire to find a safe place to play it. The piece is structured within the Princess’s dialogue with the piano as she walks through the palace. It is a magical tale on the one hand and a partial history and analysis of glass delusions on the other.
