Behind the Scenes: Joyce DiDonato

BBC Radio 4

There are few opera stars more feted and more famous than Joyce DiDonato.

The American superstar mezzo-soprano allows us to hear not only about her exceptional and Grammy winning operatic roles on stage, but about how, during lockdown at home in Spain she had kept in shape and found new digital audiences. But Joyce is not the stereotypical diva. Born in Kansas to a family that struggled financially she had to work exceptionally hard at her art.  Lessons that she passes on in her legendary masterclasses. We hear too abut Joyce’s activism working with inmates in New York’s high security prison.
