No Place Like ‘Nam

Meet the Vietnam war veterans who have decided to leave the USA and retire to Vietnam.

Fifty years after the last US combat troops withdrew from Vietnam, on location in Hanoi and Da Nang, journalist Nga Pham finds out why some American veterans have chosen to retire to the country they fought in.

We meet former marines and intelligence officers now in their 70s. Certainly cheap housing and low cost of living is part of the appeal. But moving back is also a way of healing from the deep psychological trauma and long-term health issues that stem from their wartime experiences.
